A third generation family owned business, BMI Mechanical, Inc.
traces its roots to Burlington, Kansas where E.E. Brott
established Brott Tin and Plumbing Shop in the year 1910.
An invitation to install a Rodgers Powdered Milk System in Tipton,
California brought Double "E" and his young son Gail out West.
Following the completion of the project, the senior Brott headed
for Oklahoma with his family. Gail, however, saw the opportunity
for growth and development in California and decided to stay.
He worked for the Ford Motor Company, a couple of local
plumbing shops and then ventured out on his own working out
of the back of a pickup truck.
In the midst of the Great Depression, Gail visited his family who had returned to Kansas
and talked his father into moving the family West once more, feeling that they could do better in California. It
was 1935 when Double "E" joined his son, Gail, opening Brott Plumbing and Sheet Metal Shop in Tulare,
California. Hard work, an unrelenting commitment to quality and a vision to be the best in their field
differentiated them from the competition.
Gail Brott's retirement in 1971 brought his son, Garth, to the helm. The company was incorporated this
same year, and the name changed to Brott Mechanical, Inc. Garth spent the next decade and a half
developing and expanding his mechanical contracting business. In 1987 BMI became affiliated with the
Linc Corporation in an attempt to build the company's service department. While unpopular with the
management team, this proved to be one of the most prudent choices Garth ever made as it led to the
development of a HVAC Service Contracting business with a reputation that remains unrivaled. In 1993,
Garth faced the most critical challenge of his career: the unfavorable business climate in regards to large
construction, the heart of BMI's business. With a heavy heart Garth shut down BMI's construction division
leaving a small service department intact. Following a period of adjustment, BMI began to flourish again
with its new focus on Service and Design/Build. BMI-PacWest, Inc., founded in 2003, is an outgrowth of
BMI's success in the Central Valley and the desire to offer Central California Coast building owners the
same quality and value that has been a tradition with the Brott family for over 100 years.
Two thousand and seven was a banner year for BMI as Dax Brott, Garth's youngest of three sons, joined the
BMI team. He is currently serving as the company's General Manager and poised to be the 4th generation
Brott to carry on the family business. Two thousand and ten marked our 100th year in business - truly a
milestone, and everyone at BMI shares in the pride of this achievement. We continue to be the company,
"Where Better really matters!"
